Card Sketch #145
I have a little back story to go along with this weeks card. The Just Kidding Stamp Set has some really great sayings along with the "we'll be friends until we're old and senile…" and a few months ago I turned 46 years old. Now, some of you may or may not know this but I also have a 5 1/2 year old son and at times I've been feeling my age creep up on me when I try to keep up with our son especially as he is becoming more active. While chatting with a friend, I discovered she was closer to my age than I realized and she also has a 5 year old which led us to this little saying.
This weeks sketch really is perfect for this stamp set. I stamped the "old lady" and used a Watercolor technique I call "dry brushing" which is where you use add a little water to your color but then use a dry brush to apply the color. With this technique, you can actually create some nice shading along with intensity of the colors or just add a little water to help spread the color. You can also get away with not using watercolor paper as you don't use as much water although you still need to be careful with the paper especially if you are not using watercolor paper.
The card includes some new Stampin' Up! products such as the Delightful Dijon Cardstock and the Bohemian Designer Series Paper. I love the colors in the Bohemian Designer Series Paper but I'm not a fan of all the patterns but at least each sheet has a pattern that I at least like and some that I love. Anyway, I love the pattern that I used for this card which features the Blackberry Bliss along with Island Indigo, Bermuda Bay and the Delightful Dijon.
As I assembled my card, I started with a Very Vanilla Card Base cut to a 5" x 5" card. The card front starts with a Blackberry Bliss layer (probably my favorite in color now) with a Very Vanilla Layer. Based on the sketch, I added the circle layer with a Delightful Dijon featuring a paper pierced circle then layered with another sheet of very vanilla. Both circles were cut using the Circle Collection Framelits.
Next, I added my stamped layer with the "old lady" which is also attached to another layer of Blackberry Bliss – do we see a theme yet! I added the retiring Stitched Satin Ribbon in Blackberry Bliss with a bow tied to the ribbon and added the sentiment punched using the Oval Punch with the Scalloped Oval background layer using Island Indigo cardstock. Finally, for the finishing touches I added the single flower in the top right corner by the "old lady" topped off with a pearl with three additional pearls in the left hand corner.
Definitely a fun card!
