OSAT Blog Hop – Summer Lovin’
Summer Lovin’ with Jar of Love
I’m so excited to be sharing some fun projects that feature the Jar of Love Stamp Set. When I think of summer, Mason Jars quickly come to mind as I remember catching Firefly’s as a kid and putting them in a jar or having homemade Strawberry Jam (well, I didn’t eat the Jam but my parent’s loved it!). Mason Jars have also grown in popularity as a means of home decor often related to summer. When I think of Summer Lovin’, I think of HOT days, long nights, and somehow Mason Jars fit into the equation. Oh, I also LOVE to serve a refreshing Root Beer Float in a Mason Jar! What are some of YOUR favorite summer memories?
Project #1 – Summer Lovin’ Jar of Love catching Firefly’s
I just adore the adorable little Firefly’s or, depending on your region, Lightening Bugs! As a kid, I remember visiting my cousins in St. Charles, IL during the summer and one of our favorite activities was to run around at night catching Lightening Bugs then putting them in a mason jar to see them light up. Now, don’t worry, we did let them go!
The Summer Lovin’ theme and the Jar of Love stamp set were the perfect match for me and I just had to make a lightening bug card. You’ll notice that I added gold glitter to the card. I think of the gold glitter as hundreds of Lightening Bugs off in the distance. Now, lets talk about the details of the Summer Lovin’ Jar of Love catching Firefly’s Card (is the title long enough for you)!
Summer Lovin’ Jar of Love catching Firefly’s Card Recipe:
- Using the Watercolor Wash Background stamp, ink it up with So Saffron then stamp OFF the ink before then stamping the Watercolor Wash onto your Whisper White card front.
- Take the Tombow Multipurpose glue and mix with a little water to dilute the glue then take the aqua painter or a paint brush, dip it into the water & glue mixture and flick the glue onto your card front. Before the glue dries, sprinkle glitter over your card front then tap off the excess glitter.
- On a piece of cardstock vellum, stamp the medium mason jar then heat emboss the stamped mason jar. I first inked the stamp with Versamark then inked up the stamp using Dapper Denim Classic Ink and stamped on the cardstock vellum, quickly covered the image with clear embossing powder while the ink was wet then tapped off the excess embossing powder. Use the Heat Gun to set the embossing powder.
- Using two-step stamping, stamp the larger flower with Watermelon Wonder Classic Ink by stamping off ink before stamping the larger portion of the flower then stamp the inside portion of the flower with the Watermelon Wonder Classic Ink.
- Again, doing the two-step stamping, stamp the “dual” large flower with So Saffron then stamp the inside of the flower with Crushed Curry Classic Ink.
- Stamp three Firefly’s with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and color the Firefly’s with Crushed Curry Stampin’ Marker.
- Using Pear Pizzazz, stamp the fauna image 3 times.
- Cut out the Mason Jar, flowers, Firefly’s and fauna using the Everyday Jars Framelits.
- To assemble the card front, first layer the fauna then place the mason jar over the stems of the fauna. Start placing the flowers over the fauna.
- Attach the Firefly’s. I used one firefly to hide a Stampin’ Dimensional that was too noticeable behind the vellum.
- Using the Thoughtful Banners Stamp Set, stamp the banner outline with Dapper Denim then stamp the sentiment from the Jar of Love Stamp Set inside the banner using Watermelon Wonder Classic Ink. Punch out the Banner with the Duet Banner Punch. Attach the banner to the Mason Jar.
- Attach the card front to a layer of So Saffron card stock then attach to the Thick Whisper White card base.
Project #2 – Summer Lovin’ Jar of Love Sunshine Frame
Now is a great time to freshen up the home with a new Home Decor piece and why not make it yourself using the Jar of Love Stamp Set with the Everyday Jars Framelits. A bouquet of flowers placed in a Mason Jar just SCREAMS summer! I love the look of a Mason Jar filled with fresh cut flowers and this framed piece brings that Summer Lovin’ feeling into the home. Notice the great bouquet of flowers! I love the color palette although there probably aren’t very many “blue” shaded flowers but that is OK… This piece is all about bringing a piece of summer inside.
The frame is from IKEA! Sadly, this is the last frame I have sitting around the house so now I must make another run to IKEA to get some more frames. These frames ROCK when it comes to making these types of projects.
To continue with the Summer Theme, I added the die cut “sunshine” which really finishes off this gorgeous framed piece. The color scheme is soft, refreshing and very summery. I love soaking up all the sunshine of summer.
Summer Lovin’ Jar of Love Sunshine Frame:
- Using the Perpetual Birthday Calendar Stamp Set background stamp, stamp the base with Smoky Slate Classic Ink on a piece of 5 1/4 x 5 1/4″ Whisper White card stock.
- Stamp the leafy image twice on the Whisper White card stock using Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink. One of the cool features of Photopolymer Stamps is that you can easily bend and curve the stamps. I stamped the image twice and had them curve opposite directions .
- Using two-step stamping, stamp the larger flower with Mint Macaron Classic Ink by stamping off ink before stamping the larger portion of the flower then stamp the inside portion of the flower with the Mint Macaron.
- Again, using two-step stamping, stamp the “dual” large flowr with So Saffron then stamp the inside of the flower with Crushed Curry Classic Ink.
- Stamp the third flower using Peekaboo Peach Classic Ink.
- Stamp a Firefly’s with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and color the Firefly’s with Crushed Curry Stampin’ Marker.
- Using Pear Pizzazz, stamp the fauna image and flower stems 3 times.
- Cut out the Mason Jar, flowers, Firefly’s, flower stems and fauna using the Everyday Jars Framelits.
- To assemble the framed artwork, first layer the fauna and flower stems on the Whisper White card stock then place the mason jar over the stems of the fauna. Start placing the flowers over the fauna.
- Wrap the Linen Thread around the Mason Jar 3 or 4 times and tie a knot. Thread the Linen Thread through a Classy Designer Button and finish with a bow. Attach the Mason Jar to the project.
- Using the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits, cut out the “Sunshine” from Peekaboo Peach card stock. Glue the “sunshine” to the project over the bottom 1/3rd of the Mason Jar. I did cut tiny pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals to add extra support under the portions of the “sunshine” hanging off the edges of the Mason Jar.
- Using the Thoughtful Banners Stamp Set, stamp the banner outline with Mint Macaron then stamp the sentiment from the Jar of Love Stamp Set inside the banner using Peekaboo Peach Classic Ink. Punch out the Banner with the Duet Banner Punch. Attach the banner to the bottom right corner of your project.
- Attach the Firefly to the banner. This is just one of those sweet touches of detail that help balance a project.
- Place your finished project into the frame, hang on a wall and enjoy!
