Support Your Team
This is a fun, but somewhat challenging theme for our current challenge from the SUO Challenges Blog. I had a few ideas but decided to stick with a "team" theme and created this card featuring my Alma Mater… Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. There is a bit of a back story here that is important for most people not familiar with Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. The school mascot is a Corn Cob so students are called a Cobber or Cobbers. A bit of history… In the early days of Concordia College, the school catered to lots of farmers and during harvest season the students went home to help their families with the harvest which was often Corn. The other local college used a derogatory term for these farmers calling them "Cobs." Over time, the term "Cobs" evolved into Cobber / Cobbers. Being proud of their farming history, Concordia embraced the term "Cob."
Now that you understand my College background, here is my card for the "Support Your Team" SUO Challenge. I used the Little Letters Thinlits to cut out the "Cobber" then added the Designer Paper background. Above the "Cobber," I added the star with a banner and stamped the "GO" from the Bravo Stamp Set. The Concordia College, Moorhead MN school colors are Maroon & Gold. The closest I could come to the Maroon was using Cherry Cobbler which is surprisingly close to the Maroon for Concordia.

- This card could work for any team… Just change the cut out letters to your school mascot and change the school colors.
- The stars add some pizzazz and make a nice statement – You are a Star!
- Use sequins to add a little neutral bling.
- The embossing folder adds nice texture to the card.

Well, since we are on the topic of "Support Your Team" I was actually watching the College Basketball Championship game between Duke and Wisconsin. I'll admit that I was cheering for both teams to some extent (well, maybe a little more for Duke) but I would have been happy to see either team win. Since I live in North Carolina now, I was cheering for Duke. BUT… I'm from Minnesota and although Wisconsin is a rival the fact that they had not been to the Championship game since something like the 1940's and were the underdog, on some level I was hoping they would win. I have to say it was a good game and congratulations to Duke on their 5th Championship Win.
