I live in North Carolina!  Johnston County to be exact and this area was hit hard by Hurricane Matthew.  Flooding, Power Outages, Trees Down and lives lost!  School closed for 6 1/2 days! This was my first major Hurricane and it has affected me more than I could imagine!  Friends and acquaintances have been impacted in ways I couldn’t imagine.  One friend in particular has had her home destroyed by some of the flooding!  My heart goes out to Aileen and all those closely affected by Hurricane Matthew.  This is just one small way I can help someone close to me and affected by the disaster.

Hurricane Matthew HITS Close to Home!

On the day of Hurricane Matthew, she was in her home trying to deal with ceiling leaks when suddenly there was a “swoosh” and a rush of water gushing into her home.  Her pups were sitting on her bed terrified while she called 911 to rescue her.  The fire department arrived and was able to get her along with the dogs out of the house as the water was rushing in.  We are very thankful for all the hardworking First Responders.

After the storm and flooding receded, she was able to go back to her home to see the damage.  All of her Appliances, furniture, majority of craft supplies, floors, lower level walls, and porch area were destroyed.  (note… Aileen did contact me and she was able to save her finished scrapbooks and most of her photos – WooHoo!) Even her back steps detached and floated away from the house!

Had she known there was a history of flooding, she would have had flood insurance!

Now, I’m asking you to consider helping in a small way… doesn’t have to be a lot!

Here are some photos of the flooding and devastation to her home.  Aileen DOES hope that she can save her home.

Share some LOVE and SIP69!

Now, while I’m trying to share some love, I’m also participating in my very first Stamp, Ink, Paper Challenge (SIP69).  I’ve been meaning to play along and have even done projects for the SIP Challenges but haven’t gotten as far as posting in time then linking to the challenge.

Today’s card features the same Watercolor technique that I used for the OSAT Blog Hop using Liquid Frisket.  I love how the card turned out with the sentiment embossed with Copper Embossing Powder.  The photo honestly doesn’t do the card justice.

The heart features three colors – Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo and Elegant Eggplant.  After the watercolor dried, I used the Adhesive Remover to carefully remove the Liquid Frisket.  Next, I stamped the sentiment from the Layering Love Stamp Set with Versamark and heat embossed with Copper Embossing Powder.  The finishing touch was to add the Enamel Shapes.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders from SunnyGirlScraps:

  • Sweet & Sassy Framelits.  I love using the framelits and thinlits as templates on my projects.  In this case, I traced the heart shape using the largest Sweet & Sassy Framelits with pencil onto Watercolor Paper.
  • Liquid Frisket.  Do you enjoy working with Watercolor on your cards?  Liquid Frisket is similar to Rubber Cement and a great product to have on hand.  It works like a mask to protect areas that you don’t want to watercolor.  It is applied with a damp paintbrush but you need to do it quickly and clean your brush often because you don’t want the Liquid Frisket to dry on your brush.
  • Classic Ink.  Stampin’ Up! Classic Inks work great for Watercolor Techniques.  There a variety of colors and the color families make it easy to choose colors when you are watercoloring.  I like to just add a little ink in the cover to use for my watercoloring.
