Introducing Stampin' Queen's Sketch Challenge #5 with…
The Sounding Joy
My design team submission for last weeks Stampin' Queen's Sketch uses the stamp set "The Sounding Joy" from the 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog! You've probably noticed that I'm only just a "little" late with this posting but I figure better late than never! I do have a good reason for the late posting and I think you'll agree that it is a good reason.
Chalk it up to being a busy week as we were preparing for Caleb's 2nd birthday party. So, of course, I must first share a photo of my little man with daddy blowing out his candles!
Now, onto the main reason why you are visiting or reading my blog! I really enjoyed this sketch and especially making this card featuring "The Sounding Joy" stamp set. This is easily a favorite set of mine from the 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog. I'll also give you a heads up that this set will be one of my featured stamp sets for the 12 Weeks of Christmas Newsletter Event.
This card is so beautiful (OK, I'm biased!)…
I've created another 6"x6" card using More Mustard Textured 12×12 card stock as the base of the card. The next two square layers are Always Artichoke. Actually, after I had already assembled the card I realized it would have been nice to use the Snow Burst Textured Impressions Embossing Folder but I was already onto the next element which is the center square cut from Soft Suede and framed by Naturals Vanilla card stock. At this point, I added the 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon which I gathered to add texture.
The main focus of the card is the word "Joy" from "The Sounding Joy" stamp set. I started by stamping the star using Soft Suede ink then I stamped the Joy in VersaMark followed by Cherry Cobbler and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Afterwards, I carefully used the 3" Circle die to cut the circle. The 2nd circle layer in Cherry Cobbler was created using the Circle Scissors plus set to 3 1/4" and the third circle layer made from Naturals Vanilla card stock was cut using the 3 1/2" Circle die. The circles were then centered and layered over the 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon. I added a bow on the right side of the card then took a mini Jingle Bell and tied it around the Seam Binding Ribbon Bow using the Baker's Twine.
To add balance and to stick with the theme of the sketch, I used the Decorative Label punch to punch out the matching stamped image in Soft Suede from the Four Frames stamp set. To create the Cherry Cobbler Decorative Label punch layer, I used the Decorative Label punch to punch out 2 labels. I cut the labels in half then pieced them together to create a layer around the first Decorative Label punch. The three flowers are created from the Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and then I place three Rhinestone Jewels in the center of each flower. For the final touch and balancing act, I added three more Rhinestone Jewels to the bottom right-hand corner of the card to help balance all the elements with the intent of drawing the eye in a circular movement.
