A Banner Happy Birthday Card for a Boy
PCC #212 – Color Challenge
WOW! Where has the time gone. I can’t believe Caleb is 7 years old. It feels like yesterday when we were anxiously awaiting for the news of his birth. While I wasn’t able to be with him on the day he was born, he was in firmly planted in my heart. I’m so blessed that his birthmother chose Mike and I to be his parents. Caleb is a very special and loving little boy.
This year we are not having a huge party for him. Instead, we have invited two good friends for a fun outing. We are taking them to the Launching Pad in Raleigh for 2 hours of trampoline fun. Afterwards, we will go out for dinner. I predict Caleb will choose McDonald’s for dinner!
Of course, I must have a very special birthday card for a boy. I’ve had the Birthday Banners stamp set for a couple of weeks. I’ve been uninspired and struggling to use the Birthday Banners until today. Between the Paper Craft Crew Color Challenge and Caleb’s birthday, I finally had my answer for the perfect birthday card for a boy.
7 Candles for a 7 Year Old!
I knew I wanted 7 candles on the card. Along the bottom, I stamped 7 Emerald Envy Candles with flames that are Crushed Curry then colored in the center with a Tangerine Tango Stampin’ Write Marker. Caleb is going to be very excited about the candles.
Quick back story… Caleb LOVES candles! Caleb LOVES cake and celebrating birthdays. He will probably make me re-light his candles about 3 or 4 times! Of course, each time we light the candles we also have to sing the Happy Birthday song, again. Truth be told, he loves EVERYTHING about birthdays.
Balloons? Yes, Caleb also loves balloons. I created a backdrop of balloons to help off-set the banner. The balloons really add a nice sense of celebration to the card without being the main focus.
Now, I absolutely love watching how excited Caleb gets when celebrating his birthday. He can’t wait to blow out the candles but at the same time because he is so excited it takes a while before he’ll actually blow them out. The sentiment is perfect because we have to remind Caleb to blow our the tiny fires before they melt the wax onto his cake!
Tips, Tricks and Techniques with SunnyGirlScraps:
- To create the multi-color look on the candles, I first stamped the image in the lighter Crushed Curry Classic Ink then used the Tangerine Tango Stampin’ Write Marker to add a little extra color to the center of the candle.
- Create layers by stacking your Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- I created a focal point with the banner by using the Night of Navy on ONLY the banner. As the only item with the Night of Navy, the banner pops and is a nice contrast to the balloons in the background.

What an adorable card Pam! I’m sure Caleb will LOVE it! I really looked past the Birthday Banners stamp set in the catalog but your candles are sooo cute, I think I NEED it! 🙂
Love this awesome card!! Happy Bornday, Caleb!!
Caleb had a great birthday. They grow up so fast. Of course, we could have skipped going to the Launching Pad and just taken the boys to McDonald’s with a play area!
