Can You Case It

Challenge CYCI#88

Handmade card created by Pam Staples featuring a Watercolor Background. #stampinup #thoughtsandprayers #sunnygirlscraps

This week we have a Designers Choice Challenge for you at the Can You Case It? challenge.  The card I created for the challenge features the Thoughts and Prayers Stamp Set from Stampin' Up! along with a watercolor background technique.  This past week, we have a very good family friend pass away.  Bob passed away at 10:42 am on Thursday, September 24th at his home in Minnesota.  He was like my 2nd dad and he was my Dad's best friend.  I've known Bob since the day I was born.  I have fond memories of Bob and my Dad coaching softball while I was growing up.  He has been a part of my life for a very long time.  I was able to visit with Bob in August while in Minnesota.  It was my hope to go home for the funeral but with my son's birthday party schedule for next Sunday and the funeral being on Wednesday, there is just no way for me to fly to Minneapolis then turn around and fly home the next day.  With my own health issues, I just know I wouldn't have the energy to attend the funeral and be ready for my son's birthday party with about fifteen 6 year olds running around.  While I am dissapointed, I also know that Bob is now pain free from the Pacreatic Cancer and I know he would want me to focus on my own family. I've shed lots of tears over the loss of Bob and I think it is because it brings close to my heart the fact that my Dad is also getting older.

Since I'm unable to attend the funeral, I needed to make a special card to mail of to Bob's family.  I love the look of a Watercolor Background and since it is Fall, I wanted the card to feel like Fall.  The card front is Watercolor Paper.  First, I stamped the tree with Versamark then heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.   Then I spritzed the watercolor paper with water to prep it for the addition of colors.  To create the watercolor effect, I took an acrylic stamping block and inked it up with Hello Honey then spritzed with water then "stamped" onto the watercolor paper.  I did this process with Tangelo Twist, Cherry Cobbler and Blackberry Bliss but between each layer I used my heat gun to dry each section of color then spritzed some water on the next area to have color applied.

After the Watercolor Paper dried completely, I attached a sheet of Blackberry Bliss Designer Series Paper with layer of Blackberry Bliss cardstock.  The card front was attached to Thick Whisper White card stock. The sentiment is stamped on a piece of Whisper White card stock with Blackberry Bliss and then I made a banner that I attached to the card.  My finishing touch was to add a Gold Designer Button tied with some linen thread.

I love the striking colors of the watercolor with the contrast of the Gold embossed tree!
