SUO Challenge #129

SUOC129-Pam002The Wilderness Awaits Stamp Set is one of the NEW Stampin' Up! Stamp Sets that I absolutely love.  Growing up, we traveled a lot as a family which really instilled within me a love of the outdoors, wildlife and nature.  The Wilderness Awaits stamp set just really stands out for me.  This card came together much better than I could have envisioned and I'm already planning to give it to a close family friend that is dying from Pancreatic Cancer.

Our family friend, Bob, has been battling Pancreatic Cancer for over a year and last September everything was looking fairly good but now this summer it was discovered that the cancer had spread to his intestines.  Just before I arrived in Minnesota at the end of July, Bob, was informed that without Chemo he had about 2 months to live and with Chemo he might live to Christmas.  He and his family decided to proceed with the Chemo.  If the Chemo shrinks the cancer just a little then they will continue with the treatment, keep him comfortable and pray that he makes it to or through Christmas.

Just a little about Bob…  Bob is like a 2nd Dad to me.  He and my dad have been best friends since I was a twinkle of a thought to my parents.  My parents meet Bob and his wife when they first moved to Bloomington, MN and lived in an Apartment.  They were apartment neighbors.  Bob and my dad have often enjoyed hunting together, fishing, camping and the outdoors in general.  Bob and Mary are also neighbors at the seasonal campground.  Back to The Wilderness Awaits card…  this is the type of card that I know Bob would enjoy so I'm actually inviting other Seasonal Campers to sign the card and then I'll be giving it to Bob before I leave Minnesota to head back home for North Carolina.  In the meantime, I hope the card will bring a little cheer to Bob and I also pray that he'll be able to go to the lake one more time in September.

The card front starts with a layer of Crumb Cake then a layer of Whisper White stamped with Crumb Cake Classic Ink featuring the Hardwood background stamp.  Next, I created a banner featuring the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack.  The banner is created using the Banner Triple Punch. I choose to stamp the elk image from The Wilderness Awaits stamp set with Early Espresso Classic Ink.  Masculine cards are always a little more challenging when using embellishments and I just love using the 1 1/4" Burlap Ribbon and 5/8" Chevron Ribbon attached with a Staple – great for masculine cards.  The neutral designer button with the linen thread are the finishing touch to creating a perfect masculine card.
