Handmade Vintage: The Petal Cone Easter Banner!
Happy Easter to all my readers! I hope you have lots of fun activities planned for this festive day as we celebrate Christ, as our Risen King and Savior. We are looking forward to a feast with lots of fun at our churches annual Easter picnic which is being held this year at the Clayton Community Park. Besides the pot luck consisting of mounds of wonderful food, this year there will be volleyball, softball, 3-legged races, balloon races and more!
Today, I'm sharing a fun Easter Project that I made to help decorate our home and make it feel a bit more festive. You've already seen my Easter Bunny Punch Art Baskets which are now sitting comfortably on my fireplace mantel above this really cute banner created using the Big Shot and the Petal Cone Bigz L Die. The banner isn't "huge" but it is cute and sweet.
I just wanted to share that I love the way this banner turned out and look forward to using it for Easter until I wear it out. It was a fun and easy project. The best part of creating any Stampin' Up! project is that you can make it your own. If you love this project, I encourage you to give it a try making your own banner but feel free to make it your "own." If you need supplies, I would love to hear from you and I can help you whatever you need to create your own banner!
To create this banner, I started with the Big Shot, Petal Cone Bigz L Die and Subtles Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack. I selected the So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery and Pink Pirouette patterns. After cutting each 12×12 sheet down to 6×12, I ran them through the Big Shot using the Petal Cone Bigz L Die. To create the "banner," I folded the cone together and used adhesive to hold it closed – I could have cut the cones in half to have two separate halves but I preferred the "hefty" feel of folding them together and felt this would add strength to each banner piece. Once all the cones were created I sponged along the edges using Early Espresso to create a "vintage" feel. The next step was to punch out the scallop circles from textured cardstock using multiple coordinating colors in the Stampin' Up! family of Subtles Collection. I used So Saffron, Perfect Plum, Bashful Blue, and Pretty In Pink. After I had all my scallop circles punched, I scrunched them up to add to the distressed vintage look I was after.
My next step was to create the "EASTER" portion of the Petal Cone banner. I stamped out the word "EASTER" then used the 1 3/8" Circle Punch and punched out each letter. I also added a shimmer using the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint on each circle and also added Glass Glitter along the outer edge of each punched circle.. Each letter was attached to the Scallop Circle with Stampin' Up! Dimensionals along with various embellishments including Crochet Trim, Buttons, Rhinestone Jewels, Trinkets, Brads and more. The scallops were then attached to each Petal Cone using the Stampin' Up! Dimensionals.
To finish off the project, I attached each Petal Cone to a length of Linen Thread and between each Petal Cone I used a "banner" label from the Petal Cone Bigz L Die for the Big Shot. At each end of the banner I tied pieces of Seam Binding and I also attached a Trinket Crown as a reminder of the sacrifice Christ made on the Cross so our sins may be forgiven.
