Can You Case It
Card Sketch #72
I'm really excited about this new adventure as a Design Team Member for the Can You Case It Challenge Blog. I love a challenge and this awesome group of designers will definitely keep me on my toes! The sketch for this week is wonderful… a classic, straightforward sketch which is sure to be lots of fun for everyone that plays along.
Here is a fun card that I created for this weeks CYCI Card Sketch #72 featuring the Just Kidding Stamp Set. I love to watercolor and I actually have an Art Minor with a Watercolor Painting emphasis (my senior project was a series of 3 abstract watercolor paintings). There are various types of techniques to create a watercolor effect on cards. For this card, since the "area" is smaller with lots of details, I opted to use primarily a dry technique. I utilize the Aqua Painter and sparingly use water often times keeping a paper towel handy to dry the brush if it is too wet. As I watercolor the image, I start with very little color then keep building on the color until I get the shading and effect that I want. I used standard Whisper White Cardstock with this card where I did the watercolor so you have to be very careful NOT to use too much water and I'll even dab the water and color off if it is too wet.
I opted to use my favorite stamp set ~ Gorgeous Grunge ~ to set the tone for the background. The key feature is the watercolor image of the Just Kidding lady lounging which I layered on Blackberry Bliss cardstock which includes two banners created using the Banner Banter Stamp Set along with the Banner Punch. The stamped layer is attached to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment in the bottom right-hand corner following along with the sketch. I also added pearls in the upper right-hand corner and bottom left corner. That's it… A fun card that I "beefed-up" by adding a touch of watercolor. Hope you enjoy!
