Yee-Haw and a great big Howdy to ya’ll coming from western South Dakota as Sunny Girl Scraps along with the family continues to enjoy our vacation.  It’s Sunday… which means two things for me today!  First, I’m over at the Can You Case It? Challenge Blog for a Color Challenge. Second, I’m on the road heading towards Fargo, ND where we will stay one night before heading to Nevis, MN for the remainder of the week along with the end of my husbands vacation time before he parts way with the family to fly back home to North Carolina.  Now, come on over and check out this weeks challenge as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Friday, July 8th @ Noon PST.

Can You Case It?

Color Challenge #127

So far, our vacation adventures have been amazing as we’ve visited Mount Rushmore, taken the Needles Highway and experienced the Hoop Dance.  Our son even had an opportunity to participate in a Hoop Dance which he just loved.  Then we enjoyed the Wildlife Loop through Custer State Park where we saw Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Burros and the mighty Buffalo!

Caleb was very excited to do the Chicken Dance!

One of the highlights of our trip was the Chuckwagon Cookout with a Hayride.  We each received a cowboy hat and bandana to help us play the part as we rode along in a wagon pulled by a modern day “Ram.”  The reason I picked the Blue Bell Resort Chuckwagon Cookout is because it takes you along a portion of the Wildlife Loop before stopping in a meadow field for our Steak (or hamburger) meal.  A highlight of the evening was seeing the main herd of buffalo as we slowly made our way through the park and even had to wind our way through the herd.  It was so cool to see them up close while on the hayride.  Our son definitely loved seeing the buffalo.

UTV Adventure

160701-UTV - 25

Mike, Caleb and I at the mid-point of our UTV Adventure in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Wet but having fun!

The weather held out for us pretty well up until Friday when it rained most of the day but that didn’t stop us from having fun on a UTV tour in the Black Hills.  It was amazing!  The rain created lots of opportunities for MUD which our 6 year old son LOVED.  Caleb kept wanting me to go faster through the “puddles” for major splash effect.  Mike and I walked away soaked even with rain slickers on whereas the child remained fairly dry since we had him in the middle seat of our three-seater UTV.

Western Adventure Yee-Haw Stamp Set Inspired Card

CYCI 127 Design Team Card created by Pam Staples featuring Yee-Haw

As I’ve shared our adventures, this weeks card is most definitely inspired by our Yee-Haw Chuckwagon Cookout.  The Yee-Haw stamp set is still available but hard to find on the Stampin’ Up! website as it is one of the original Photopolymer Stamp Sets.  It is definitely a fun set perfect for our Western Adventures in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  I’m actually looking forward to using it for some Project Life pages I have planned from the Chuckwagon Cookout.

The card features Night of Navy, Tempting Turquoise and Emerald Envy. I used the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set for the background then the Yee-Haw Stamp Set for the Cowboy Hat and Yee-Haw.  This card can really be used for almost any occasion such as a congratulations or birthday just by stamping or writing on the inside of the card.  I thought of adding a banner but realized I didn’t have the sentiment I wanted to go with the Yee-Haw Stamp Set so opted to keep the card more basic.

CYCI 127 Design Team Card created by Pam Staples featuring Yee-HawYee-Haw Card Recipe:

  •  Using Gorgeous Grunge, stamp the background using Tempting Turquoise and Emerald Envy Classic Ink.
  • Stamp the Yee-Haw and Cowboy Hat from the Yee-Haw Stamp Set with Night of Navy Classic Ink.
  • Attach the Whisper White card front to Night of Navy cardstock with just a small portion on one edge showing.
  • Attach the Whisper White and Night of Navy layer to another layer using the Emerald Envy.
  • Add some Brights Enamel Shapes!  I used the Tempting Turquoise Enamel Shaped Stars.
  • Finally, attach the card front to the card base.
