Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch #200
Birthday Fiesta Celebration
Since the Paper Craft Crew is celebrating its 200th Challenge, I was inspired to use the Festive Birthday Suite of products from the 2016-2017! Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. This is my first time playing with this fun product suite and, yes, it is most definitely very festive! The colors are bright, fun, festive and bring the party alive. Now, let’s get down and FIESTA…
As soon as I saw the Alpaca in the Birthday Fiesta Stamp Set, I just KNEW I had to have this stamp set. The Cactus may have also persuaded me even though I’m not a huge fan of the desert. Regardless, you cannot deny that the Birthday Fiesta Stamp Set is definite all about celebrating. Whenever I look at this stamp set I’m reminded of my first trip to Tijuana when I was 16 years old. We were visiting friends in San Diego, CA and went to Tijuana for a day trip. It was definitely an interesting trip. I remember the crowded market, the bartering and SO much activity along with SPLASHES of bright colors. The poverty also stood out in my mind which made it extremely hard to “barter” because I felt I was taking advantage of the sales people. But, I did manage to barter and purchase beautiful blanket that I still own 31 years later. Now that I think about it, the blanket is very close in color to Melon Mambo and Tempting Turquoise.
This weeks Paper Craft Crew card features the Alpaca stamped with Tip Top Taupe, an Emerald Envy Blanket and Melon Mambo Reigns. The Alpaca may not be the absolute cutest creature on earth but you do have to admit the Alpaca is quirky looking. I used the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper with the cactus for the background of the card. Then, based on the sketch, I have a bit of Emerald Envy card stock peeking out of the edge at an angle just under the front layer. Colors in the card include Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, Crushed Curry, Emerald Envy, Pumpkin Pie and Tip Top Taupe.
Birthday Fiesta Card Recipe:
- Cut the layers to your card including the base layer from the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper (“DSP”) layers on Melon Mambo.
- The Whisper White card front layer measures 2 5/8 x 3 7/8 and is layered on Crushed Curry card stock with Emerald Envy peeking out at an angle.
- On the Whisper White card front, use the Perpetual Calendar Stamp Set to stamp a Tempting Turquoise background.
- Use the Sunburst Thinlet with Crushed Curry card stock and after you’ve cut out the Sunburst, use the Layering Circle Framelits to cut the sunburst into a circle shape. I used a scalloped layering circle which really fits with the theme.
- Cut 2 strips of Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper in 1/2″ strips that are 3 3/4″ in length.
- Stamp the Happy Birthday from the Ready To Pop Stamp Set with Emerald Envy and cut out with the Bunch of Banners Framelits.
- Assemble the card. Attach the Whisper White card front layers with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the Festive Birthday DSP layer.
- Glue the strips to the Whisper White layer with Fast Fuse then attach the Sunburst with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Tuck in the Happy Birthday banner where you want it to go and attach with glue dots.
- Finally, finish the card by attaching the Alpaca with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Congratulations, you’ve now completed a fun and festive Happy Birthday Card! I actually have several ideas for some fun cards using the Birthday Fiesta Stamp Set and I can’t wait when I have more time to play with the set which will hopefully be while I’m on vacation in Minnesota the month of July.

I am gonna finish up my card for this week’s challenge and post it later on this afternoon!
I love your alpaca card! Like you said, he is a quirky one, but cute! I have not participated in a sketch challenge before, but I am going to give it a shot this time! Very excited about the new In Colors too!
Pam, this is such a bright & cheery card to celebrate our 200th challenge for the Paper Craft Crew! Thank you for all of your hard work & dedication being our coordinator and leader – we really do appreciate you! 🙂 ~Deborah
Your card is like a ray of sunshine! Love all the awesome colors!! What a generous prize…….I have a US address and could use some fresh new colors for stamping 🙂
Wahnita, so glad you enjoy the card. It is like a ray of sunshine.
love, Love, LOVE your card! The colors, DSP, and llama – all perfectly done here!
Love the card and the festive colors! And love how Stampin’ Up! suites coordinate so you have that cute cactus DSP to use with the alpaca. My first, and only, trip to Tijuana was also from San Diego though I was only 12.
Hi Pam, I don’t want the blog candy, but I just wanted to say that I really like this card! I’m loving that llama and this is super fun and festive! Crystal
Pam – your card is great! I have never been to Tijuana but I have strong Texas roots that make the Fiesta set a good one. I have not purchased it yet. I am hoping my daughter will buy it! She just moved from San Antonio last week so not sure she will though. Fiesta Week was a big deal in San Antonio with mariachis, pinatas, sombreros and cascarones.
Thank you Sharon. It is a fun stamp set.
I seriously questioned this set, but you really make it shine! Such a fun “fiest-ive” card! I will try to get a card going for the 200th challenge!
I think the way you took the sketch and made such a unique and wonderful card is so awesome!! Love the sunshine behind the alpaca and the other design elements that just make this a FABULOUS card!!
How absolutely adorable the llama is! He makes me laugh! Thanks for the opportunity to to win some ink pads. What a great prize!
